First things first, a quick spelling lesson:
The word "WEIRD" is spelled with the "e" first, then the "i". Forget that rule about "i" before "e" except after "c". It doesn't apply here. What do you expect? The word is "weird"!
A brief description of why this website was born:
Weird Illustration.com is the home of weird art by me, the weird artist known as qrstuvr. My art has appeared in everything from newspaper print ads to peoples' tattoos to strange fiction to the internet to art galleries in Chicago and New York.....and on and on.....
I have been illustrating weird, strange, bizarre, and often times disturbing images since early childhood. It has only been the last few years that I have really accepted just how weird my Art is and have decided to market myself more exclusively as an illustrator who specializes in the weird and bizarre.
As I've worked different jobs in and out of the art and design fields I've really gotten to know myself and what it is that I really enjoy doing. I enjoy drawing and painting weird things. It comes naturally. Why should I NOT pursue it? I'm good at it.
I can't tell you how many times someone has seen my Art and said "That's weird". Sometimes it's a compliment and sometimes they are offended. We all bring our own experiences to the table when it comes to looking at Art. I have the ability of creating art that stirs emotions in people that sometimes makes them uncomfortable and other times brings great joy and awe.
This website is my newest creation and tool designed and implemented to generate more work for me more exclusively in the illustration world.
A brief background on me, qrstuvr:
As mentioned above, I've been drawing weird stuff as long as I can remember. I've always had my Art as a friend in between all of the moving, changing schools, making new friends, trying to find the "right" major in college, and very importantly, now. Now because I realize that this is what I love to do. And this is how I'll be remembered.
I've been to several colleges for various majors. I have an Associates in Arts (which basically means generic degree because I didn't know what I wanted to do yet) from Crowley's Ridge College.
Several years later I obtained a degree in 3D Animation and Multimedia from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I began transforming my weird creations into the 3D world at that point. Unfortunately for me, the Art Institutes are (or were in 1998) very "commercial" driven schools. Which meant very commercial business contacts. For me that didn't work out very well. My work at the time was not very "commercial". But, everything happens for a reason, right?
So here I am now, several years later. Continuing my career as an illustrator who will be known for creating weird, stunning, and beautiful Artwork.
